Say goodbye to the winter doldrums and hello to "Soleil", a beautiful new must have yarn.

Trendsetter's new Soleil yarn is created by twisted strands of a light cotton and along the way adding carved wooden beads and 3 shapes of dye cut leaves.

Keep it simple with an easy garter stitch, or add textured stitches letting the background be as important as the textures and details added to the yarn. You do the knitting and the yarn does the rest!

For more information, check our site at http://www.customyarns.com

Still Learning ..........

I recently started a knitting group that meets at a local Barnes & Nobles. It amazes me to see the skill levels of our members. I can't remember when I didn't have knitting needles in my hands, yet, I consider myself a very average knitter. Some of our members knit with beads, and I find their work to be superior. One of our members was working on a pair of socks, and tried though I may, I couldn't find a seam to see where she began or ended.

It just goes to show with this ancient craft, there's always something new to learn.

Never Loose Your Knit Knacks Again

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 204px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qIVivGEx-GE/SaQ_UiSvtnI/AAAAAAAAADI/9gy6S_-CI4I/s320/The+Knit+Kit_webimage.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5306435882984650354" />
Wow! Who didn't know that? All they had to do was ask a knitter what they get from knitting and the list would be endless. Knitting for me is a stress reliever, a way to express my creativity, an enjoyable quiet time and has opened a world of new friends who knit.

Are you like me? Always looking for something new to try? Do you seldom repeat a project you've already done? Are you a sock knitter who can't get enough? We just recently discovered a new manufacturer that offers quality yarn at great prices and have begun to stock their line of yarns. Jojoland offers a line called Harmony which is a worsted yarn and Melody which is a fingering weight yarn. All at once I know several projects I HAVE to make. At the moment, I have a ribbon shawl, a baby blanket, the Zimmerman Surprise Jacket, several summer placemats and a freeform purse just begging to be started.

I spend time thinking about the yarns I'll use, what the finished product will look like, and if it is a gift, how the recipient will use it. My fingers itch wanting to touch these new yarns and gorgeous colors.

Then suddenly, I get into a slump and don't want to be knitting anything. A slump never lasts long, like a month or so. Sometimes, it's just a week and in that week nothing I see says " I have to do it."

For what ever reason, it may be seeing a new yarn or a gorgeous photo of a finished garment that someone has lovingly made and placed on Ravelry, my enthusiasm returns, the slump is over, and I am knitting up a storm. Curious to know if anyone else experiences the slump?

Mom's Words Of Wisdom

You know the story, when you were an adolescent you were convinced you had the world's dumbest parents. When you grow older, you realize how smart, caring, funny, wonderful and full of wisdom they were.

My mom always preached to keep things in an orderly manner, which when I was 10 made no sense to me. Now that I have an inventory to take care of, I see how her words are so remarkable.

It happens like this every season........ there's always a few yarns left that we will not be reordering or have been discontinued by the manufacturer. What to do? Well, we decided to have an ODD LOT SALE So what does that mean? It means great savings, but there may only be 3 or 6 left in stock.

We listed Trendsetter's Charming yarn on sale for 60% off, Great Adirondack's Dangles are 40% off, Several Alp yarns are 50% off, and several Berroco yarns are 40% off.

Okay, it isn't the time to make a sweater, but we're seeing a lot of sock knitting, lacy shawls, more sock knitting and other quick and easy projects for the summer.

WWKIP Forms Backdrop For Custom Yarns Promotion

Contact: Linda Ostroff
Phone #: 800-853-1338
E-mail: Customyarns@verizon.net

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Customyarns.com celebrates Knit in Public Day
with benefit promotion

Custom Yarns by Linda is conducting a special promotion in recognition of Worldwide Knit in Public Day and in

support of an online forum for knitting enthusiasts. I honestly can't remember, but I'm pretty sure it was my mother.

I find that newer knitters today learn from friends, knitting groups, online and Stitch 'N Bitches. Newer knitters want quick projects like socks and scarves. My contemporaries knitted sweaters, but I find if someone is knitting a sweater today it is for a baby.

When I first learned the yarn everyone used was a DK navy blue wool. How far the industry has come....... Now Great Adirondack, Berroco, Trendsetter, etc. produce the most unbelievable yarns in fibers such as alpaca, mohair, cashmere, ribbon, merino and cotton.

Who could have predicted that sequins, beads and something called eyelash would one day be a component with yarn? Who would know when I learned to knit that there are more stitches than just garter and stockinette? What would my mom say about freeform knitting? I think she'd be amazed!

Mirror, mirror on the wall I am my mother after all!

So, I'm curious to know - who taught you to knit and how have things changed?

An Adventure With Freeform Knitting

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qIVivGEx-GE/SDNksYkzOTI/AAAAAAAAABU/90HMSaoWn6U/s320/NRK+Pillow+-+Pacific+Sunrise.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5202612708216879410" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qIVivGEx-GE/SDNksYkzOUI/AAAAAAAAABc/niPRNY_96zM/s320/NRK+Pillow+-C.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5202612708216879426" />
One day, in an adventurous mood, I grabbed a crochet hook and just began working the yarn in no particular shape. Once I had this piece, I attached another yarn and crocheted around this odd shaped piece. I liked the way it looked, so soon another yarn was stitched around the piece in uneven stitches. I liked that too. Before I knew it, this irregular shape was the size of my hand.

I put is aside and began the process again. I loved this new way of working with yarn. I love the freedom of not following a pattern, not using a gauge, and doing whatever I felt like doing.

Before I could totally comprehend what this was all about I had several pieces that were knitted, crocheted, knitted and crocheted using all different yarns in varying colors, stitches and textures. I knitted two yarns together, and couldn't get over how well everything blended together.

Eventually, I sewed the pieces together, and before I knew it, I had a one of a kind pillow. The freedom of freeform, as this style is known, let's one explore their creative style with imagination and a curiosity for the unknown. It has become an insatiable obsession with yarn as I can't wait to see where the needles will take me. I've even used different sized needles and knitted and crochet on the same piece. It's amazing how forgiving the yarn is, and what a change it is not following the discipline of a pattern.

So, here's a finished result ..........

Yarn Harlot Brings Sunshine To A Rainy Day

Yesterday I had the pleasure of hearing The Yarn Harlot speak in Philadephia for the Free Library's Book Fair event. It rained........ oh, how it rained. Doesn't matter, I would have gone to hear Stephanie Pearl- McPhee if there were 6 inches of snow on the ground!

She is so delightful, funny, compassionate, charming and dedicated to her craft. I purchased her newest book " Things I learned From Knitting...whether I wanted to or not" and can't wait to get started.

Of course the room was filled with knitters and crocheters, that goes without saying. What surprised me was how many people were knitting socks. Maybe because sock knitting is so portable. Second to sock knitting was lace knitting. The shawls that I saw in progress were beautiful beyond description.

I've never been into sock knitting and let that get in the way of offering sock yarns for my customers. After so many requests, I finally ordered Soxie and Silky Socks from Great Adirondack Yarns. When I opened the box and saw these hand dyed beauties, I asked myself " where have you been all my life"! My customers just love them.

Then I discovered Oasis yarns ( http://www.oasisyarns.com/) and began offering their sock yarn. Wow! Are they popular! One yarn in particular, " Faded Valentine" seems to be one we can't keep in stock. Great for lace knitting and sock knitting. The color, the textures......... see if you don't agree!

My Sister, Who Doesn't Knit

I have a sister who does not knit, does not crochet and has no interest in any form of needlework. Imagine, SHE has a sister who has a yarn business and has no interest in what's new and exciting!

I recently told her about a dear customer who had just purchased 4 skeins of Great Adirondack's Pashmina Serengetti at $87 a hank. This just happens to be, in my humble opinion, the most luxurious yarn we've ever stocked. ( See photo above) Who wouldn't want that beauty? All cashmere, all luxury, all gorgeous.

Her reaction was " you mean to tell me someone spent $348 and then has to make a garment"? She just couldn't believe it and I was amazed at her reaction. "For $348, I want it already made," she told me.

Imagine, my sister will never know the fun of opening a new bag of yarn and savoring the gorgeous colors. I'll have to make peace with the fact that she'll probably never experience the adrenaline rush I feel touching a super soft yarn. I'll have to accept the fact that she'll never call me and tell me her head is spinning with ideas about this new yarn she just got her hands on.

Well, I can hope.

P.S. We're reordered this yarn several times and this week presented two new colors - Bahama Mama and Pink Orchid. With names like these how can you lose?

Dangles is produced by Great Adirondack Yarns, a female owned company in New York. We support Great Adirondack Yarns and all their endeavors as finding quality, hand dyed American yarns is getting harder and harder to find.

We also carry their line of sock yarn called Soxie and Silky Sock. The yardage is fantastic and even if one is not into sock knitting, these yarns can be blended with another to make one delicious combination.

Here's to creativity!

More Knitting Secrets Revealed ...

We recently asked our customers to share their KNITTING SECRETS with us and what a response we received!

Congratulations and a $10 Gift Certificate is awarded to :

* Glenda Clemens
* Linda Rini
* Raven Norejko
* Theresa Turnbull
* Susan Schutz
* Mary Adams

Many thanks to all , and here are the winning KNITTING SECRETS:

Loom knitting is getting downright trendy and of course I had to give it a try. The part I found most frustrating was repeatedly fumbling with that darn knot peg at every row. I picked up a package of tiny child sized spring loaded hair clippies, the sort with curved teeth, at the dollar store. They are the perfect size and strong enough to hold the yarn securely on the tie peg without that cumbersome knot trick!

I always try to pull the yarn from the centre..that way I can put it in a plastic grocery bag and have the yarn coming out of the handles,or use a a large plastic bottle or container,cut a hole in the cover and feed the yarn through the cover to use.That way it keeps it from curious claws and dust bunnies!

When knitting a cardigan I use the short row technique to knit the button and button hole bands on at the same time. Every 4 or 5 rows I'll knit to the band, turn and go back. This way, I can knit the 1x1 ribbing along with the sweater and not have the ribbing be too long causing the sweater to be longer along the front edges

When knitting a shawl, Use size 19 needles and after every 4-6 rows knit one row of a dropped stitch for a looser more lacy efect! I use a variety of yarns and lots of your gorgeous eyelash mixed in and they come out really nice

I love to crochet and I love to knit but hate to cast on and bind off. I chain the number of cast on stiches I need, pull up the loops through the chain to cast on. To bind off I use a crochet hook with one knitting needle. Both edges are wonderfully finished with more consistent tension.

I, like most knitters, HATE knitting that first row. It is so close to the needle and most times extremely tight and hard to get your needle into the stitches. To eliminate this problem, I have learned to always hold two needles together to do the cast on. Once the appropriate number of stitches have been casted on, I remove one of the needles and proceed to start knitting. The stitches being knitted are not too tight and there is no stuggling with that first row!

Have a KNITTING SECRET you'd like to share? Send it to us and if we publish it in a future newsletter, we'll give you a $10 Gift Certificate good on a future purchase!

http://www.customyarns.com/shop/agora.cgi?cart_id=&cartlink=Contact_Us.htm

Knittinf Secrets Revealed!

KNITTING SECRETS
We asked our readers to share their KNITTING SECRETS and received more than we ever imagined! Welcome to the club! Here's an idea we've found for a quick project that uses up lots of leftover yarns - Pillows!

They make great gifts, are fun to do, take little time and allows your imagination to run wild.

Follow these steps for a custom made pillow :

* Purchase a pillow form in the size you prefer
* Select yarns by color family
* Measure pillow form on 1 side and double
the width measurement, allowing some room for the yarn to
stretch.
* Create your own design - solids, stripes, freeform, squares, etc.
* Insert pillow form in the completed knitted rectangle or square
and using a tapestry needle sew the 3 sides together.
* By finishing this way, the 4 th seam is eliminated.

Want to use up some more yarn? Take a thick and short eyelash yarn and crochet on all 4 sides to create an eye catching border. Here's another suggestion ... take yarn and braid it attaching braids to 2 sides of the pillow. Gives the pillow a finished look . Be sure to leave room on either side of the braid for fringing.

You're gonna love it!

Winter Clearance Sale

Wow!
